As part of the social mission here at Talent Insight Group, we’re asking our delivery team to nominate the charities that really matter to them. In this week’s installment, it’s over to Associate Research Director Ben Kearvell to share his story.
I’ve chosen Yeovil Hospital Charity, a local charity close to my heart. They run various community fundraising events to develop buildings, equipment, projects and services for the town’s hospital. The charity is run by a group of dedicated volunteers, many of whom have suffered illness, felt the impact of the charity first-hand, and chosen to participate in the betterment of our community and services. This includes my mum, who was introduced to Karina and the team driving the fundraising for their Breast Cancer Unit Appeal.
I was made aware of the charity through my mum, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Having seen the passion, drive and effort that the team put into the support and events that they provide, I felt incredibly moved by the environment of care and community that they have built. It was just a shame that I had to settle for 2nd place in a recent fundraising quiz that they held!
Without wanting to state the obvious, illness doesn’t discriminate. This charity, and the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal in particular, helps countless individuals and families. Aside from the more obvious benefits of this type of charity, I’ve also seen an amazing community and support network being formed. Karina and her team supported mum where me and my family weren’t able to, using their own experiences to empathise and guide her through the journey. My dad also benefited from leaning on the team to answer any of his questions and concerns. I’m proud that both of my parents are now volunteers themselves, helping other people on their own journeys with the disease.
